What was the major peice of civil rights legislation enacted during the 1960's for Afircan Americans?
Q. Chronicle the events that produced the modern Civil Rights Movement and then assess the validity of the following: "The Civil Rights legislation of the 1960's recaptured for African Americans the social and political status they held briefly under Reconstruction but was lost again by the 1900's."

A. Yea, what William said. They were both pushed through congress by President Lyndon Johnson. President Kennedy was against both pieces of legislation. Had he not been shot, the 60's might have been a lot more violent.
